The Singapore part of our 1987-1989 world tour
After almost 5 months in India we experienced another culture shock when we arrived in Singapore. I’ll never forget the difference between the toilets in the Madras airport, where the cleaning lady slept on the floor in the toilets, and the spotlessly clean toilets of Changi Airport.
Life was extremely expensive in Singapore after India, but anything we could imagine was available. Our first lunch we bought in a supermarket: Dutch milk accompanied our French baguette with English cheese and we had Japanese sweets as a desert!
Centrally located as it is in south-east Asia, we returned to Singapore several times. Hotel Majestic and the Chinese district became our home away from home.
