The Malaysian part of our 1987-1989 world tour.
Malaysia is the only country on our world trip where we did not always feel at ease. Although the society seems to be peaceful, we felt a strong undercurrent of racial tensions. But still, on the quite busy west coast we enjoyed the tree firns and the tea plantations in the Cameron Highlands. The east coast was much more laid back, which made cycling enjoyable. We saw the turtles laying their eggs on Rantau Beach under only recently started protection. Unforgettable was our first snorkeling experience: as if we jumped into a tropical aquarium!
